The Scores are In!

Z's standardized test scores arrived in the mail today. Here's how he scored for language arts and mathematics:

Holy cow! I knew he'd do better in both subjects this year than he did last year. That is because, this year, I was able to teach full-time and not have to work outside the home. I also expected that Z. would test well on math because we spent plenty of time preparing for the math tests after Z. fell way behind mid-way through the year. (We took off several weeks to work on his long division skills.) Even so, I never dreamed that he'd shoot past "proficient" into "advanced" in math and language arts. I mean, we really didn't dedicate any time to study vocabulary until this summer. We also ditched his language arts book and just read C. S. Lewis books from the library. Correction: I read them aloud to Z. ...and still he pulled very high reading scores. Amazing! Of course, his writing skills still need lots of work - we knew that, and we'll certainly be concentrating on improving them this year, but still... I'm turning mental cartwheels all around the room. (I can't do *real* cartwheels anymore.)

So, please, family and friends, congratulate Z. the next time you see him. Give him a big hug, candy... and lots of pocket money!

Yay, Z!!!
